a poem from the prompt "righteous rage" from the first meeting of Justice Journaling // picture taken by Nijah on Juneteenth 2019

righteous rage
fills my page
as i look through this age
of men and women
who disregard the babes
saying age is "just a number"
full of slumber
what happened to woke-ness
why hate broke-ness?
forgetting the cracked hands
and backs of elders
ancestors
snoring through
the roaring 2020s
their vision is blurry
our prez is scurry
the situation feels furry
bare with me
the scars of the past
that last
through generations
that traverse
great nations
my great-great grandaddy
was blue black
according to my unc
gr8-gr8 grandaddy's children
selling his land
put him in a funk
so i write for him
and legions of others
i write for my mother
who still asks my about future
books
i write for the folks who love bell hooks
i write for lorraine because she was
gone too soon
i write to the stars
like i'm a new moon
and i write for me
to be free
young, gifted, & black
never whack
BLACK-black
not just in the 2nd month
i'm 5/5 black
human all year
never stop
my God still sees
and is near
i won't fear
my future is bright
my promised land is here
so i love my rage
and my page
my words
are clear
